FS: Bumper Karts from Ollie Koala's
« on: February 04, 2014, 12:54:05 PM »
I know, crazy right?

A buddy of mine is a General Contractor and is doing the tear down on an old Ollie Koala's here in Jacksonville. They left some stuff behind.

I have 4 of these bumper karts that I am trying to help him unload and I thought someone here might be interested in tinkering with them. They are all four complete, but in various states of working and non-working. Could be as simple as dead batteries, but maybe not. At least one of them worked and rolled across the floor when the batteries were hooked up and charged. So you know you got at least one working kart. Parts can be found on eBay for all of these karts, so with a few more bucks thrown at the project you can get yourself four working karts and have family crash up derby night.

Assume you are buying them non-working at a fair price, and then when one or more of them works you can feel like you got a great deal. Some are very nice, the bodies are good - not cracked, etc. Some of them need the rubber around the shifter knobs replaced. But all of the four that he salvaged are at least decent and were the best of the bunch.

Asking 1000 bucks OBO for all four of them.

I was only able to take one out of the trailer for photos, but all four are in approximately the same condition as the one you see here.

I can get more photos later if that is what it takes to make these suckers go away. Look at what these sell for reconditioned in the internet! If you have a little knowledge and some tinkering time on your hands, you could make a pretty nice profit here.

And I would happily sell you one for that, if it comes down to separating the lot.

I don't want to hold on to these for a long time. I'd rather just rid of all of them in one fell swoop.

By the way, I also have a working Colorama II that came out of the same place. The ticket dispensers have been removed, but otherwise it is working 100% and in nice condition.

For sale or trade!

Possibly ...

Or, he took the job, got stiffed on the payment and is now selling anything that was left behind to try and recoup his costs from the job. Truth is, neither of us know the deal. All we know is that this guy has these things and he knows a guy (me) that knows some other guys (everyone I know) that just might be interested in this stuff.

If someone wants to make an offer on them, I am sure I can convince him to take less. He isn't looking to make a "killing". If no one wants them, I will tell him to sell the metal for scrap. These things are freaking heavy as hell.

:-)

all i want is the motor drives, and electronics for battle bots, i don't want the metal frame, the seats.

i would be willing to give $400 for the lot minus the metal frams and seats and outter bumber tires.

Battle bots? Wtf are you building over there, Mr. Mad Scientist? :)  I saw this scenario in the Terminator movies. Remember, I've always liked you. Sincerely, John Connor

I remember those things from Koala's!  It would be fun to have a couple for the kids to battle with in the street, but I have a feeling the pavement would tear up those wheels.  Looks like a bit too much of a project for me to take on.

Those would make some pretty big battle bots Hamster!  If you get one or more, you'll need to post some videos of what you create.

Tempting ... that is a video I would like to see!

Here is another photo of all four karts and bodies. What you see is what you get!

I found a place here in Jacksonville locally that refurbishes these gel batteries for $60.00. That is a hell of a lot better than buying new ones for $600.00 a pop!

These are the same batteries that old folks use in their "hoverounds", so I checked on hoveround batteries and found them selling new for close to $600.00. I guess the battery people are trying to put one over on the old folks.  :-\

edit: after a bit more thorough checking, I was able to find a site selling hoveround batteries for $240.00 (though they appear to be reconditioned and not new).
