Wells Gardner 2792 replacement
« on: May 09, 2010, 10:27:40 PM »
I've got a World Series Baseball cab that I use as a Naomi cab that I bought off Militiaman a while ago.  After a little while of having it it started having a color problem with reds where they would disappear and come back.  Now it's getting to the point where they aren't coming back predictably and me not being good with monitors thinks I may as well replace it.  Anyone know what a drop in replacement for such a bugger would be?  While we are at it, any ideas on a replacement monitor on a sega blast city as well?  I appreciate any help.

If you've got the parts, and the chassis is removed from monitor, and you're near Jacksonville, I'll swap out the caps for you.  (Using a vacuum de-soldering station beats the heck out of messing with braid or a hand de-soldering pump, imho)

I'd have to find the cap kit.  I just don't know if that's going to fix that type of problem on a 9200...  Troubleshooting sheet on wells gardner's website says when there's no red on this monitor the cause is IC201, R228, and Q202.

have you changed the VGA cable? as I know Ibis had a very similar problem with his Big Blue Naomi, and he pulled monitor, took to tech to fix, all was good, and was the cable itself, might be worth just checking that.........  ???

Actually, that was the very first thing I did.  It didn't make a difference at all.  In fact, after removing the back and checking all the connections, the monitor seems to permanently have red loss now where as before it would just occasionally lose it for a minute or two and come back.

have you tried to go into factory mode and check the settings, or restore back to factory? I think its buttons 1 & 3 to hold down to get into factory

It's a digital monitor that has a "restore to factory settings" selection in the menu if that is what you mean, which I have done to no avail.

okay which revision is it? as they did rev A-K I think as that might determine the variations for cap kits etc

Curiously, I left me machine plugged in overnight (I usually leave it unplugged from the wall) and when I turned it on it's working fine now. Any ideas if this is a coincidence or is there any technical reason this could happen?

The only thing the sticker says besides what I already said besides some random numbers is 054A9202.  Who is Atari Jim?
