Post by: k7 on August 03, 2016, 07:46:14 PM
I mean, I write in the ad not to bother me with scams, and just 10 minutes later, I get this text:

I hate Craigslist scammers.

They're like texting you and asking for your email address to discuss the item.

ARRRRGH!!! You are texting me. Let's just get it out of the way right now. Am I right?

Is the sell still on for this item? Advise please.

you know they don't read the ad, they just copy the title and add their garbage before sending it. They don't have time to read every ad they respond to

I responded to a couple last week, first asked for my final price (dead giveaway) on a $650 item, and I told him it was still $6500, and he was ready to send the check ;-)

The second I answered immediately that item was still available, but make sure his shippers are bringing cash. He was too dumb to even catch that

I have been reverse phishing since 1997. I think I'm up to 80+/- fake checks that I have on my office wall, and notepads of info.

I have not successfully gotten any of them to western union me money (me - I need gas money to get to the bank and the western union office, and I have to buy my driver lunch), but I have had them drive for 2+/- hours due to me "mistakenly" sending the payment out-of-town (for them). you can google MTCN numbers to get them to believe my dumbazz paid.

they were sad pandas. :(

Most of my CL ads over the last year or so have been for free or cheap stuff that I just want gone (so no scammers), but man did I ever get the scammers attention when I posted the wife's old wedding dress.  I asked several scammers to send the check to "Ivanna Shitzzinyou" and other names, but the checks never came :(.  I have no desire to build a portfolio of fake checks, but damn't I do kinda sorta want just one to frame somewhere :p .  Maybe I need to relist that dress again ;D

Showed these to the wife and she didn’t get the top one at first.I told her to try it out loud and after a couple of tries, it clicked.

My teenage son and I lost it.

they are offensive, but really try to see what they will send, vs what they won't.

only got rejected one time. and it was a horrible name.  :)

I have 15ish in my name. 1 actually cashed 1 out, in the early days of the 419 check scam.

I've contacted banks, the post office, sheriff offices, the ICC. no one cares. so then I just entertained myself.

I put a PC up for sale on CL and the scams rolled in within minutes.
I either don't respond at all anymore to them or I'll reply nicely:
Local sale only.

or...

you waste their time, entertain their multiple empty threats, and save a senior citizen from losing her life savings.

and, sometimes...you get paid. ;D

honestly, this all started when they bothered me on a Porsche sale back in 2003. I was mad when they got exposed on Dateline back in 2008, and I got no credit after years of pictures, emails, checks, and more reverse phishing.

now it's occasional, but the checks they send now are pure garbage. they used to send legit, and if you played the game...well, you played. :)

I have @20 checks in my name, and variations of such. but after about 2012, they all went fake.

Dude I had a scammer recently contact me via email looking to cash in on an old eBay deal that I did locally I think. I’ll post the email thread in pics if I can it’s fucking hilarious. I do the same thing chris does, I personally love messing with these guys. If not for pure kicks alone, I also try and tie them up as to not call others as long as possible.

Tell him that after all the time the payment was lost and refunded - you never got it that paypal sent it back -- tell you dont trust paypal anymore and it will be easier with money gram and safer - then both have proof money is there..  tell him your name is Joe Durtay and that once you get the money gram/payment you can ship..   get a photo of some hillbilly off of google images and say - here is my brother now you understand.. and send another photo of someone totally opposite of the hillbilly - some rich kid and be like _ I dont know where my parents went wrong we are 2 different people.

:) I'm bored..

you're in so deep with this dude via conversation, I don't think you can get a check out of him. you have to put a fresh item on craigslist for anywhere from $200 to about $2000. that seems to be their sweet point of handing out the fake checks.

the idiots text me on trade ads...they don't read.

with moneygram/western union, you don't need ID for under $3500 transactions. it's the scammer's sweet spot amount.

I still have never been able to get them to pay me to drive to moneygram to complete the transactions. has been my short-term goal. for 15 years now...lol. and unlike the early days, it's very hard to get a picture of them. they just image-search one out.

I have gotten paid, though. an accident on their end. and then a nice payoff on mine. but those days are pretty much gone. 99% of every check they send out is inkjet printed up. on the rare occasion, they do still attach to real accounts. and those banks don't care. I guess it's old news to them that a customer's account numbers got hacked, and if they lose money, oh well.

I strung one along last week. I was bored

Hello, how are you today, do you still have the pool table for sale

                          Me:           Why, yes I do

Good, I am interested in having it and I know it is in good condition right?

                                     It is in excellent condition

Okay i'm glad it is in a good condition, I'm currently out of town at the moment and I will love to have. It is a nice piece.I'm willing to add an additional 20 just to secure the purchase.

That's no problem, Ill hold it until you get back in town

Thank you, I will be out of town until late next month. I will love to have it. I can send you a cashiers check and after you get your cash.I'll have a moving company come for pickup immediately and hold at thier storage. If that's ok kindly send me your full name and a mailing address.

Not a problem, I can store it in my warehouse until your ready for it.

You have nothing to worry about since my movers will be coming over to your location and that will be after you must have received and cashed the cashiers check successfully from bank..

That's ok, we can use my shippers since I own the shipping company.

Consider it sold to me. Please send me the name for the check and mailing/box address. Thanks, I'm Alice Walton

Ok, kindly provide me the receiver name and the mailing box address

That's ok, you can pay me when I deliver it. Kindly provide me the recievers name and shipping address

still waiting to hear back

Well this has now become a personal contest for me. I’m going forward with the notion that the winner of an award that I will make, let’s call it “the Nigerian”, will be the one with the most outlandish back and forth with a scammer. Points will be awarded for certain milestones, and we will determine a winner to hold the trophy every year like a ff league. I’ll come up with some specs for scoring and timelines for calendar year/start dates. Who’s in?
