UPDATE: We're told after Petty got to the hospital he had no brain activity and a decision was made to pull life support.
Tom Petty was rushed to the hospital Sunday night after he was found unconscious, not breathing and in full cardiac arrest ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.
EMTs rushed to his Malibu home and were able to get a pulse. He was rushed to the UCLA Santa Monica Hospital and our sources say he was put on life support.
Always liked Tom Petty, especially since he was from Gainesville.
Bummer.

In deed, what a bummer. His was a legend in my book. RIP Tom.

Bummer day for sure, Vegas shootings and now Tom Petty passing.
-
I saw him 6 times and he always put on a great show. He seemed to be in decent health and I just heard him on the radio the other day. I guess the years of abusing his body caught up to him. Without a doubt his music will live on forever.

I was recently reminded of how good the Jeff Lynne produced Full Moon Fever album was.
When we (finally) got cable in 1990 (we were kinda rural) Tom Petty was one of those artist they'd play into the ground on both MTV and VH1.. but it was cool because his videos were always so well done.
Who knows what did him in, probably drugs sadly but I guess we'll find out in a few days. Sometimes even if you quit the damage has already been done and will catch up with you.

who knows. 67 years old or so , old enough to have heart probs that were not diagnosed for sure.
A very sad day for rock people. Got a few of his cds in the ole juke box in the living room

Man, what a bummer! 66 is way too young. We lost another great recently also, Glen Frey, at age 67.
I have a very good documentary DVD; Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers: Running Down a Dream. It chronicles his life and career with the band. The volume of good work he has done will live on.
RIP

Was sad to hear of this, he went way too young. Seems I never changed the station when he was on, he was original with his own sound.
-
So did he die or not? I’ve seen conflicting reports saying he did die and some saying he did not die, but is on life support.
-
Pulled his life support, but he was still breathing, no brain activity seen. Sometime tonight probably he will pass into another life.
Update...now his has passed on, RIP to another great legend! :0(
Dimitriades says Petty died at 8:40 PM PT at UCLA surrounded by friends, family and his bandmates.
After learning Tom had no brain activity, his family chose to take him off life support.

Extremely talented man. Very sad news.

Tom Petty... one of the greats. Listening to Pandora now and Free Falling (live) is playing. :'(
