NEO GEO System Questions
« on: June 18, 2016, 09:16:33 PM »
1) Multicart compatibility: I've read not all 1 slot NEO GEOs work with a multicart. Visually how might I tell or test before buying a multicart if one will work or not?
2) Which is best multicart? Is the 161 the best current one? Are there any "fake" 161s to avoid or will any from Aliexpress do? Or any seller you would recommend?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I have the 161-in-1, i've used it in the old style 1-slot, the newer style 1-slot and a 2-slot with no problems.

People say there are some issues with some games but they seemed OK to me.. however i'm not neo geo expert.

Is this the old style or new style 1 slot?

I think Neilhdz did some mods to his multicast to get it to work better.

Hey guys, yep the 161 needs to be modified. I have a link that shows you how to do it. Took me about 1 hour to do. But the cart works awesome :)
If you don't modify it the sound quality sucks. (that's how they were able to get around the copyrights)

I think I found the mod links you are referring to online with the 47uf etc. When modded, this should work fine in any 1 slot then, yes? I'm thinking about getting a 161-1 and call it done.

The mod will fix the sound issues. Certain games had sound issues. This fixes them up. Also you may need to trim the edges of the pcbs. They may be too wide. And they wont fit in the slot. Just keep an eye on that. Let me know if you need anything else.

Both links are below. One is an English one is in Spanish. I used both of them to take a better look at the boards from different angles. Note in the English video the guy buys additional things he really didnt need. So keep an eye on it.

I'm using the 161-in-1 in my 4-slot in slot1 with no issues.  However, it's my second one.  Something happened to the original one I bought.  So I ended up buying another one.  It would have cost almost as much to send the cart back to them for a replacement as it was to just buy a new one.  That cart is what led me to this site though, so I'm not too upset about it.

Anyway, the cart seems to work when played.

The 161-1 is pretty good for the value, but I like the game selection, and interface of the 138-1. Also, Darksoft is working on a Mulitcart, but it will most likely be $399
