Yeah, I'm still on a Canon multi-function laser printer/scanner/copy/fax from like 2003 or so (maybe older) and it's on the 2nd toner cart.

I think that one is almost empty, or it could be the printer itself is on its last legs, but either way I can't really complain.

Ink jets on the other hand, I had one where I just didn't print anything for a couple weeks, the ink dried inside it and it never worked again. Fuck that.

Last one I bought had a separate cartridge for each color. I figured that would get around the whole cyan runs out after 2 weeks making the entire $50 color ink cartridge worthless.

it turned out to be just as expensive as each color seemed to deplete/dry out super fast and they cost $16 each so no real savings.

It staggers how much money the printer companies make off ink.. I especially like it when they put in anti-reusable cartridge checks.

I came to that conclusion years ago, bought a small Epson laser printer for $100 and never looked back... there is simply no comparison in terms of cost, reliability, or print quality.   One toner cartridge costs $50, prints reams of paper, and never have print quality issues.  I have a second one (Brother, copy/fax), and now that I need color printer will be looking into color laser printers which look to be around $200, so they still look like a big savings over ink.

Yeah we got a Color Laser earlier this year. Print quality is fine.. it's not really photo quality but it's plenty fine for normal/business use.. and just the the black toner the color toner is very reasonable and lasts a hell of a lot longer than color ink cartridges.

i've been repairing all printers since 1995. if you buy laser, make sure you know the cost of a ETB/belt and or drum...those items are the most costly in color laserjets.

otherwise, yes...go laser, and never look back. and you can use generic toners off amazon/eBay, but when you receive one, get a garbage can and just shake them a bit when you receive them...if any toner leaks out, return it now.

this was a nice thread. i've repaired inkjets and offered for free, but ink cost is how they all make the money. give away the cow, sell the milk....something like that.
