Floor Protection Questions
« on: July 28, 2017, 10:04:21 PM »
Evening everyone,
So wifey decided that we need to replace all the flooring in the house, so that leaves me with some questions that hopefully someone here has been in the same boat. Looks like we are going to go laminate flooring, is it worth it to buy the more expensive  stuff with the underlayment already attached?  Is it really hard to install? And finally what do I need to use to actually protect the flooring in the game room with several pinball machines, and a couple of arcades and  a San fransisco rush cabinet?  Any advice is greatly appreciated..thanks

I'd be concerned about moisture ruining it.  I'm thinking about doing tile that looks like wood.

They actually have some  pergo flooring that can withstand standing water for 24 hours so that's what we are looking at, but still havent decided..

This being Florida, how about higher than normal moisture content in your slab for any length of time?

Don't really have to worry about moisture as we are in a mobile home...so no slab..

Should be a moisture barrier under your slab for the main house, but maybe not for the garage or carport.

You can still have moisture issues at the periphery.

I use RedGard when I want a killer water barrier. It offgasses like a mofo while it’s drying, but it can’t be beat.

On a side note, my family has been in flooring for decades. The under laminates are best at preventing light moisture from hitting the bottom of the planks. Since you’re in a mobile home, I would treat the true subfloors and use a quiet step or similar product under your laminate.

Wood tile is nice, but all tile is pretty unforgiving when it comes to subfloor expansion and contraction. You could end up with a lot of cracked traditional grout and it would stretch the limits of the flexible acrylic grouts as well.
