North Korea
« on: September 23, 2017, 05:13:16 PM »
Is this a perfect storm, with two loose cannons going at each other, and both countries' populace waiting to see which leader blinks ?  As an American, I want to believe that we will always attempt to take the high road.  But, when our president sends out endless Tweets (which btw, NO president should be doing, imo), that hold no modicum of statesmanship or diplomacy, and instead, makes direct threats of annihilation, well shit !  I'm bothered by that.   Sometimes, saying less is more.   I'm all for defending our country at all costs and defending our allies.  But this rhetoric has got to be toned down, or everyone's gonna freak out, including me.

How could there be a world war when North Korea has no military supporters?

Watching this unfold is unnerving.  I keep thinking of some videos on youtube-  search for "Instant Karma."  They have videos of the big thug bully picking on the small whimpy kid, only to have the whimpy kid roundhouse kick the bully in the throat and knock him out.

World War?  No.  Military action and death to US citizens?  Yes.

death to US citizens? Doubtful. Even if their ICBM's had the capability of reaching the mainland, they would never get here. We have enough technology and worst case scenario, trained fighter pilots ready to sacrifice themselves for their country.

There's almost nothing stopping America, South Korea and Japan from wiping the floor with NK right now. The only thing stopping America from destroying them is the threat of Nuclear fallout in the pacific....that and the possibility that the US and allies might have to literally kill the vast majority of NK military personnel leaves America in a bad PR spot.

Despite the appearance that China doesn't like NK, at the end of the day, they're both commies and asians.  I seriously doubt China will sit back and do nothing, while we level their neighbor's playground into an atomic parking lot.   And China would be the real threat against us.  Hence, WW3.

China's current ideology is vastly different than their mindset back in the 50's.

Today's communism in China is a system of government using their older communist values as the basis to make a profit for the governing state. It's literal slavery for profit. Getting into a war to defend a country that does absolutely nothing for them is bad for business.

China's only reason to defend North Korea over the past few decades has been to keep any form of democracy away from the chinese mainland. Actually, that was their only reason for entering the Korean war. Over the last 3 decades, that same mindset has only been used diplomatically.

No, but I think the little guy can inflict damage.  No matter how great our technology is, South Korea is within striking distance.  One of the Army's major data centers is there, over a dozen bases, 25k+ US soldiers.

disagree. I'd even go as far as to say that Japan and South Korea can take North Korea without the US. Albeit with a sizable casualty count but they have what NK does not, Air superiority and decades of war technology at their disposal; Even factoring in Japan's extremely limited air force and lacking decades worth of war experience.

The biggest issues with any war with North Korea are the following:

-NK officials are unlikely to ever surrender
-Their 5 million + soldier count, we may literally have to wipe out a significant portion of their soldiers in order to establish dominance there.
-Nuclear fallout Nuclear fallout Nuclear fallout Nuclear fallout
-Their lack of any air force
-The absolute brainwashing of their people and their likelyhood of continuing to support the DPRK ideology even when the controlling party no longer exist

China alone would be able to take him out.  They don’t want a democratic NK so they won’t sit idol and let SK or the US take the country over.  Question is would they want to own the end result?  What would it take to get the NK people to be ruled by a new communist government with a Chinese leader?

No one here seems to believe that North Korea is a true threat to the U.S.  This back and forth has a real purpose for both countries: a great excuse to justify increasing military expenses in peace time.  The military industrial complex thrives in these well orchestrated pseudo threats.

America hasn't had peace in over 100 years.
