Dude, I worked retail mid-80's in the deep south and we did not sell black Barbies.  They may have existed, but were not mainstream.  I somehow have a strange suspicion Rush has been spewing about Blade for the last few days.

You stated they (blacks) did not have a option to buy black Barbies, well Mattel made them in the year I was born so I can not speak to the distribution then, but the fact is they were out there. As far as Rush talking about Blade, I have no idea. I do listen to him periodically but I have not listened to anyone talking about Blade since the Black Panther movie came out.

Do you disagree with anything I have said about Blade?

But that is not reality. As it has been pointed out, 20 years ago we had a hugely successful superhero movie staring a black guy. Did it bring blacks out of poverty? Did it change the percentage of single mothers in the black community? Did it reduce black on black violent crime? No. It was just a good movie. This is where I have a problem with the people jerking off all over themselves saying this movie is a "world changer". It has been done before and there was no "world change" for black people. Hell, we had a black president for 8 years and there was no "world change" either.

You know what changes your world? Working hard and getting a education that is marketable. I have never known a black doctor or engineer that was unemployed.  :P

Who the f is expecting all that?  Can't you just let them be excited about it?  In a sea of green people movies, there is finally a purple people super hero movie.  Just let the purple people enjoy it?

I liked the first Blade movie.  The second one sucked purple ass.

As far as who is expecting a change, I would say it is this guy who stated that this movie is "world changing" for people of color.

If you are a person of color it is world changing to see your super hero as the focus, not just a backup or side guy/gal.

As a rep of the purple people, I my have to rewatch 2 and 3.  All I know is working at a K-mart in the mid-80's there sure as hell weren't any black barbies named Christy flying off the shelf.

So it sounds like you believe if K-mart stocked more Christi's in the 80's the world would be a different place today. How so?

(typical endless dribble)

You live for moments like this. Where you as a keyboard commando white man, think your take on history (past and present) should determine how non-whites think, feel and act. Obviously you are upset in your sad life because your range of influence goes no further than this forum, and no one outside of it gives a shit about you.

FWIW.....a good movie is a good movie, doesn't mater what color the star is. Its doing well because.....its a good movie!

Not knowing Mattel's marketing strategy, the lack of black Barbies in certain markets doesn't really point to anything. I seriously doubt the managers of any location had any say what was brought into their stores.

Blade movies rock, never even thought about it being a black character.

People make this into a boiler plate topic because they can(not you guys, the media). It riles up all sides when really, there is no reason to get riled up at all. Imagine if this movie came out and everyone said 'its a good movie'?  Wow, I wonder if both sides could stomach a world with no hairs to split?  Or is everyone too accustomed to flying their 'race' flag(yes, both sides) every time this pimple gets red?  Both sides of these articles are stupid.

I simply said I can understand why black people are excited about this movie, and tried to present an analogy.  Whether a black Barbie has been around for 50 years or not, it makes no difference to my original point.

It's a good thing to have positive role models you can identify with, even fictional ones.  Like it or not, the color of your skin is part of your identity.
