Why do I stink at playing any solid state game?
« on: June 22, 2018, 01:29:41 PM »
I mean really.
when you play a EM the idea is pretty much to "roll over" the score. Then you write the score down on a "post it" and stick it on the back
glass.
Then you just try to beat that score. Shoot , that can go on for ever. Ive got one EM ive played for 30 years or there about, never have gotten tired or it. Of course out of the 14, 792 games Ive played on it I was probably stoned, drunk, or both half the time so maybe that helps.
Now I only party on coffee and maybe misuse my meds sometimes but that never gets me stupid enuff to qualify for being "one toke over the line" at all.
So when it comes to these Solid State games why do I just plain suck at them? Is it a curse layed on me by the BEEP himself? Did K7 monkey with my viagra or mess with the Soma dosage? Did that Viking guy burn me to the totem pole in another life? I dont know but man do I stink at these two games. First off Ive got this Walking Dead pro that I love to play. I have tried to load 1.6 code along with clelands but everytime I do the 1.6 code that shows when the stick is in the puter disaapears before I can download it when I put it in the game! Go figure that one out! Im gonna buy me a new thumb drive thats new and blank and see if it will load off the box onto the drive and then load it in the game.
Ok so I cant play the Walking dead for shit but I really like it. I have it set to "easy " and my high score is 300 and something. I know pitiful right? BUt it is a complicated game.
Now the other Solid State game is a T2. I really like this game. Bought it from a villager who I think gave me a bit of a deal in spite of how some people value this game.I mean it really does look new with one imperfection, looks like a bulb got too close to the plastic "glass" and melted a little circle there but you cant see it at all while playing and would indeed be a stretch to find when not in play. Now Ive got no manual and I dont think it can be programmed like a stern which I can kinda do without any manual at all. But this Williams game Id like to turn the "special" so it only awards extra ball and Id like to reset the stored high scores. Now I DID in fact score high enough to get my initials on the lowest High score but shit, I dont know how I did it only that I had the ball flying around and repeatedly hit ramps and such. But this game is a lot simpler then the walking dead pro.
Thats the end of my whining about why I stink on SS games but am not afraid to compete with anyone on a EM as long as Ive had reasonable time to play the game prior to a playoff with someone who knows the game.
Oops wait a minute, I used to do well on 8 Ball Deluxe but that game had a EM style layout.
Thats all from me, for today, so keep em flyin' yall and dont take any loonies in the change for quarters, the bank doesnt like them!

"Soma dosage..." Love the literary reference. Some people were just "decanted" for pinball, I guess.

I admire your persistence. There have been machines where I was really no good at the thing at all, then had one beautiful game of clarity where I completely rocked it and achieved every goal. Then I walked away happy I did not have to ever do it again. (Yes, I'm thinking of you, Hyperball!)

Who says you need to do well to enjoy the game? There are more games than I can count that I can't play worth a damn but love (AC/DC, Whirlwind, and Stern Star Trek come to mind).
Get past the "I need to be the best in the world on this game" and you'll see how much more fun you'll have!!! And to add to your complaints, I have a heck of a time playing a good game of TWD lol

If you are scoring 300M on TWD and getting a board score on T2, sounds like you are playing just fine :)

The basic premise is still the same on games-try to score as much as you can.  With the solid state games (in your case I’d call them the DMD games), versus the EMs with a straightforward “all you gotta do” approach,  the main difference is how do you want to go about getting those scores.  There are ways to score pretty high without playing multi-balls, but sometimes a multiball with a SJP is a faster path.

EBD is a solid state game but unlike your 2 DMD games 1) it is a single ball game and 2) it is pretty limited in what goals to go for.  Great classic game :)

As long as you are having fun, that is really all that matters :)

Agreed, i haven't been playing that long, about a year now but really all about having fun in the end. Especially since I know I won't be winning any competitions.

You never know!

I know people that started playing in more and more “casual just for fun tourneys” and then were bitten by the IFPA tournament bug and they are doing great!

Best type of tourney to jump in on IMO is a 3 strikes event. :)

Weeze, you're a little flipper guy in a big flipper world.

You'd do better putting 2" on the Walking Dead, although can you imagine the drain monster that'd be?

Sell the SS and stick to what your genre is...and sell me all the 3" Gottlieb EM's.

Sincerely,

The Big Flipper Mafia

weeze, i can't play pinball or arcades. i feel the pain. i just like to fix them and pretend i can hang.

for every 1 great game i have on hulk or family guy, i have 100 stinkers. but since it only takes one ball, i try every game. albeit badly. :P

on T2, you can get into the menus, choose utilities menu, and just install Easy or Extra Easy to start out with. under the adjustments menu, you can fine tune every aspect of what rewards you get, and 100s of other choices.

              ...seriously, would grab one. thanks.

well gee you didnt even PM me to get me to start thinking about maybe selling it. See that wouldve been the way to go, sometimes people say they wouldnt see game x but if you try and encourage them with say , MONEY then you never know what will happen! Sold my Tom Cat that way, guy just had to have it.
But I am seriously enjoying getting my ass handed to me on a regular basis and I keep learning the right shots here and there so who knows, one of these  days I may score a TRULY KLASSIC score on it and then decide to sell it, But not now.

Practice, practice, practice

Weeze- just keep playing dude. Before big major tournaments I force myself to play every night. We’re headed to pinburgh here soon and my practice strategy is jump from em, to modern, to early ss, to late ss. Then do it again mixed up.

I remember getting back into the hobby and only had a gnr pin. I got so good at it from playing it all the time that I had memorized the add a member shot. I soon took that muscle memory to other games. Backhanding all sorts of shit.

Keep the game, force yourself to play it every day

well, ya see, somedays it depends on the drugs.  :o
BUT, in general, Ive managed to play daily pretty much everyday since I was 35 years of age and then there are all those wonderful days of wasted youth and general anarchy that was the sixties and seventies...then I got married!............. >:( >:( >:( >:(
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. still gives me nightmares.
