Ground short row 1 stuck closed fishtales

Ugh I can't figure out shit!! Any ideas where to start?

Slam tilt, cast, captive ball, left jet and extra ball. That narrows it down to 5 switches. Did you check the coin door?  Put the game into switch test and unplug coin door., note any changes.

Yup, something is touching to ground on one of those switches.  I had a CFTBL that had a socket barely touching a switch leg underneath, but created a short row.

The way I would approach is to unplug the switch input wires at the bottom of the CPU and then power on.

Orange wires can stay attached, just the green white wire plugs (3)
If the error is still there, then the ULN IC is probably bad on the CPU.
If the error goes away, plug in the smallest connector with green and white wires and power on; if the error shows up,
then the problem is in the cabinet, if not, then check the playfield switches in that row.


This procedure isolates where the problem is very quickly.

Isolating it from either part of the cabinet would cut down time.  Is that chip available out there?

ULN2083 - a couple of dollars at most. Sometimes they are already socketed, but usually not on the WPC89.

I know this is old, but lm339's go bad on opto boards often and short rows to ground. Ive seen one chip short the first three in my drac. If this is suspect change the 100mf cap on the opto board as well.  If suggestions above havent yeilded answers try unplugimg the opto board feed in the same manner
