Microsoft Game Room Avatar-Trailer CES

I had this same exact idea a while back. An online avatar driven arcade where you can play against friends or random people, in an arcade environment.

Glad it's being done, just hope they continually add newer games onto it.

Isn't that sorta what PS Home was supposed to be like?

I never actually downloaded or installed or whatever.. PS Home.

So much for that changing the face of online play.

This looks neat though, will have to give it a go. Wonder if they games are 'free' to play or if you have to buy them?

there was an article in this months Gameroom magazine, MS are planning a 3 story Virtual Arcade with all the classics and you can wander round and play games or talk to friends, you can purchase the games outright similar to the pricing now for XBLA titles, or they are looking at pay per play with most titles being 25/50cents (most likely 50cents I bet) which isnt a bad idea, but will soon rack up Im sure.

PS Home was okay, this actually looks a better idea, Home was continually downloading and updating and spent most of the time walking around the mall, or add on areas, I havent touched Home for ages as got frustrated with it

Might be a hard sell to get people to drop real money into virtual arcade games but we'll see. I'd definitely give it a go.

Only complaint would be.. i've spent SOO much money on home versions of some of these games through compilation discs, etc. that I don't know if I got another $5 in me for Asteroids.

Another review. Great concept but the $ aspect makes it dicey.

-Downer: You can't directly play against another player online (so no head-to-head in Combat). Instead, online multiplayer consists of high score or other challenges you send to your friends

Shame as would have been pretty neat to have your friends all in your newly created virtual arcade and be able to play against them and not just for bragging rights on high scores. Basically its a pretty frontend for MAME  Tongue
