Amazon has a bunch of the Marvel Omnibus Collections on sale from $8 - $15 each. Free shipping if you spend $25. Most of these are around 1,000 pages so that's some good value.

I picked up the Secret Wars II collection as i've read the mini-series but never tracked down all the issues it spilled over into. At least the subsequent mutant crossovers kept it to the core X-books!

Cool, I loved Secret Wars 2 as a kid (the first one not so much). Basically it's god (or a god anyway) as a supervillain. It actually touches on some interesting philosophical ideas, plus you get the cross-over wackyness with all the characters from different books thrown together.

edit: Guess I missed the sale, prices I'm seeing now are $63-$70, ouch. Too bad, I would have bought Secret Wars and possibly some others. I'd like to see one that collects the "mutant massacre" phase of X-Men, I started reading it shortly after that took place so it was referenced constantly but I never knew exactly what happened.

The price is good, but they are obnoxious to read.  I prefer the singles or TPB format.

But for 8 bucks, you can say what the heck.

I didn't realize these things retailed for $80 f'ing dollars.. so a really good deal! Too good apparently.. most got cancelled (including mine). But I got a $25 credit from Amazon for being a good sport.. so $25 for basically placing an order isn't bad.

I guess the pricing figures, I remember Marvel used to have those 'Masterwork' compilations that were like 10 or 15 issues and cost $35. Thats nutso pricing given todays worthlessness of comics. Yeah, yeah you can't get original X-Men for 50 cents but you sure as hell can get any number of the reprints that cheap (if you can find them).

I was mostly bummed about the Secret Wars collection as it collected all 35 issues it spilled over into including crap like Power Pack. What kid over 5 years old bought flippin' Power Pack? But yeah Niloc Marvel was a bit screwy on their crossovers for a bit. The Mutant Massacre was also all over the board. I remember having to track down issues of Thor for that one. I'm sorry, the 'Mutant Massacre' shouldn't be spilling over into friggin' Thor. At least with the Fall of the Mutants, Inferno, et al it was just the Mutant books. I still had to put up with reading The New Mutants for 3 issues each year, but I survived. Never was a huge Leifield fan.

I wish they'd get their asses in gear and come up with a good legal resource for Comic downloads. I'd buy some stuff if it wasn't too expensive. Maybe with the 'Pad' revolution later this year we'll see some movement.

Well Asus or somebody is apparently working on a non-apple'd up pad deal, so if that comes out with say an Atom CPU I think you got the perfect comic reading platform right there.

I'd like to see a collection of the "Evolutionary War" crossover series too. That might even have to be a double-size omnibus, those were some extra thick comics when they first came out, like triple length books I think, and a bunch of them. Not for $80 though. I'd pay maybe $16.

The final solution.
