Monitor rotation -- clockwise or counter-clockwise?
« on: August 31, 2008, 06:52:38 PM »
I'm going to rotate the monitor on my Windy when I have a friend over so I can play shoot-em-ups on it. Well come to find out my only vertical game must not be JAMMA since it didn't boot up, so I have no way of telling which way I need to rotate the monitor. Anyone have an idea? I know that some games rotate clockwise and some counter-clockwise, but which orientation do MOST modern games rotate?

Cool, thanks Phil. I found out that Egret IIs rotate counter-clockwise only, so I guess that's a good indication I should set mine that way too. And if I end up with any games that go the other way, I'll hope for a dip switch setting or a yoke swap.
Can anyone else verify counter-clockwise?

Regardless which way you rotate, you can always just flip it on the chassis board, by flipping the wires round, usually a grey plastic plug that you can move to switch horz and vert, on the Windy rotating from Horz to Vert I would move it Clockwise.

My first Jamma cabinet was for whatever reason 'upside down' from the standard. Most games have a 'flip' dip switch but a few didn't so I just ended up flipping the wires and it was fine. I hear you can cause some damage if you don't do it correctly though.

Sorry, just noticed this post, but the blast's have a counter clockwise rotation, so I would assume this would be your best bet.

I guess the easyest way to figure this out is to wait until you get the vert board you want and than do the rotation.

Hmmm I knew he was talking windy, just figured there might be a standard amongst cabs.

The reason I said counter is cause thats what it says in the BC manual,
"When installing the monitor to the cabinet, to position the CRT vertically, ensure the Connector Plate is on the
right-hand side of the CRT and position the CRT horizontally, ensure the Connector Plate is underside the CRT."

Which would be counter clockwise, so I dunno.

I guess the wires on the chassis could have already been flipped on mine, I think the best suggestion is Phils and put the board in place and then work out which way to tate.

Mick, everyone's against you and this clockwise nonsense :)

I had a guy over on Monday to help me rotate the monitor. He plays a lot of shoot-em-ups on consoles and he says the rotate mode on a TV is almost always counter-clockwise too, but that there were exceptions to the rule. So with his advice and the advice on this thread I went with counter-clockwise. Unfortunately my only shoot-em-up isn't working on the Windy, so I can't play any games on it, only admire how cool the Windy looks in tate mode.

Okay totally scrap my posts, after some actual thought, not just the initial quick posting, yes it does go CCW, probably as Im hacking up a D9200 and fitting into a candy and that went CW but only as it wouldnt fit any other way, totally ignore my advice from now on and follow others. ??? :P

It looks like we've solved an age-old question then, heh. I searched everywhere on newsgroups and the web for this answer and came up with nothing.

So why all the trouble getting the D9200 in the Windy? Did you have to hack up that inner frame? I know a guy on KC installed one into a Blast City with little trouble, which is amazing considering the bezel is meant for a semiflat.
